Thelma Virata De Castro |
Playwright. She has worked with the
Fritz, Muse, AART, Carlsbad Playhouse and the Institute for Arts
Education. Her plays for young audiences have toured libraries, schools
and the Actors Festival Kids’ Night Out. She received a residency at
Hedgebrook, a retreat for women writers in Washington state. Her plays are
collected in the Asian American Women Playwrights Archive at the
University of Massachusetts at Amherst. |

Paola Hornbuckle |
Paola Hornbuckle is a
playwright, actress, and English high-school teacher. She is originally from
Spain, and has lived most of her life bouncing between Spain, the United States,
and South America, in addition to a three year stay in Japan. She has a B.A. in
English, with a minor in Theatre from George Mason University, and a Masters in
Secondary Education from Marymount University. Her first play,
The Perfect Red,
written as a college project, was finally produced fall of 07 by North Park
Vaudeville Theatre and in spring of 08 by Perspectivefest. It was picked up for
publication by Smith and Kraus' Best
Ten Minute Plays of 08:Three Characters.
North Park Vaudeville will be producing
This Ain't No Friggin Love
Story
in fall 08. She won a Scipteasers Award 07 for her
play,
The Real
Estate Agent.

Peggy Dougherty |
Peggy Dougherty's
full length comedy From Bed to Worse was the winner of the GRAND VALLEY
STATE UNIVERSITY NEW PLAY COMPETITION 2000 and had a workshop with four staged
readings in Grand Rapids, Michigan in October of 2000. From Bed to Worse also had a staged
reading produced by CARLSBAD PLAYREADERS at Carlsbad Village Theater on July
24, 2000.

Mike Hemmingson
is the former
Literary Manager of The Fritz & APD of The Alien Stage Project. With
several actors and producers in town, he will launch The Gaslamp Quarter
Drama Department in late summer 2001. He has directed the West Coast
Premiere of Nicky Silver's The
Food Chain, David Mamet's Edmond and All Men Are Whores, Melanie Marnich's
Blur, Erin Cressida Wilson's Hurricane, etc. His own plays, produced here
in San Diego, include Erotic Scenes in a Cheap Motel Room, Driving
Somewhere, Bosnia, Iraq and a number of short plays at the Actor's
Festival, such as "The Aliens," "NASDAQ," "Milk," and "Kinbote." "Iraq"
was produced last year by Love Creek in New York, as well as the Samuel
French Fest 2000 last summer. Hemmingson has optioned three screenplays
recently to Morgan Creek, October Films and Troma Films, and has written
for the TV shows "Cleopatra 2525" and "First Wave," and is represented in
TV/stage by the William Morris Agency and in film/books by the Carol Mann
Agency. He recently signed with Tor/Forge Books; the first of those books,
Wild Turkey, is now out. White Russian will be published in 2002.
Hemmingson is also writing the biography of Robert Downey, Jr. for
