Carlyn Ames

Actor

Founder, producer, director and actor-singer in the Golden (not over the) Hill Players Senior Theatre Company, Carlyn has been performing since she was five years old in community, university, and non-equity theatre in California, Arizona and the Midwest. With and M.A. from UCLA, she has been a language teacher (French, Spanish, ESL), a world traveler, an aerobics instructor, political campaign organizer, and a film script supervisor among other things, but her real interest has always been the theatre. She’s had years of leading roles in dramas…The Crucible, MacBeth, Come Back Little Sheba, Glass Menagerie, Gin Game, Rashomon, but her real love is musical theatre. A singer with the Tucson Big Band and her own jazz trio, Carlyn produced and directed musical dinner theatre in Arizona.  In San Diego, she has acted with a few local groups, was stage manager at 6th @Penn and Coronado Playhouse, and teaches Theatre Writing workshops in the summer.

Resume

Teri recently got “blitzed” as part of the 10th Annual New Playwrights Festival presented by The Fritz Theatre; appearing as the neurotic desperate-for-a-man Joanne in “Peaches En Regalia”.  Local appearances include Aubrey Award winning performances in “Joined at the Head” (Maggy), “Ravenscroft” (Dolly), and “How to Succeed in Business…” (Miss Jones).  An accomplished costumer, she earned her most current Aubrey designing costumes for “Not Now Darling!” at Lamplighters (she also performed double-duty as a cast member in the role of Tippers).  Although Teri has only been back in San Diego for a little over three years, she has made the most of her time by keeping active on stage: “Crimes of the Heart” (Babe), “Rumors” (Chris), “Stepping Out” (Vera), “Talking With…” (Audition), “The Miss Firecracker Contest (Carnelle), and several others.  Previous experience on the east coast included roles in “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress”, “Two Rooms”, “You Should Be So Lucky” and the title role in “Sylvia”.  Teri currently serves as the Vice President of ACT San Diego and is the Acting Artistic Director for OnStage Playhouse in Chula Vista...in her spare time (ha!).
