Bryan Bevell is probably
best known for his work at the Fritz Theater where he spent most of thei 90’s
directing, acting, producing, and generally keeping the lights on, while also
serving for four years as the company’s Artistic Director. He has received wide acclaim for directing
and performing the works of such noted contemporary playwrights as Suzan-Lori
Parks, Naomi Wallace, Nicky Silver, Mac Welman, Wallace Shawn and Harold Pinter
among others . Previously at the REP, Bryan
assisted Artistic Director Sam Woodhouse in Paula Vogel’s Pulitzer Prize
winning play, How I Learned To Drive.
Other directing credits include King Lear, The Lover, One For the Road, Fat Men in Shirts, Free Will and Wanton
Lust, The America Play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, It’s A Wonderful Like, The
Third Voice of the Nightjar, My Marriage to Ernest Borgnine (World
Premiere), In The Heart Of American, and Gangster No. 1. Most recently Bryan reprised his critically
and popularly successful performance in Wallace Shawn’s full-length monologue,
The Fever at Sushi Visual and Performing Arts Gallery.
His performance in The Fever at the Fritz Theater was named one of the years 10 best.
He made his directorial debut at San Diego Repertory Theatre with Oxygen on April 2, 2001.
